Agartala, September 20: The search for health worker Jiban Choudhury, who had been missing for several days, ended tragically on Sunday after his body was recovered from the Dumboor reservoir.
Choudhury had reportedly gone missing on the night of Vishwakarma Puja, following which search operations were launched to trace him.
The body was spotted floating in the reservoir by local residents early Sunday morning. They informed the authorities, following which police and emergency personnel reached the spot and recovered the body.
The remains were sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation. After the required medical formalities were completed, the body was handed over to Choudhury’s family.
Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to his death. Officials are examining how he entered the reservoir and the events preceding his death.
The incident has left Choudhury’s family, colleagues and local residents mourning. His disappearance had triggered concern in the area, and the recovery of his body has brought the search to a tragic end.
Police said further details are expected to emerge after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation.
