Tripura, 16 Sep 2026: The Santirbazar Traders’ Committee has begun preparations for its 2026 Durga Puja, with a women’s committee taking complete responsibility for organising the festival.
Sagata Haldar is serving as the president of this year’s puja committee. The organisers said the puja has been planned with an emphasis on recognising women’s leadership and participation.
The puja has a budget of around Rs 11 lakh. The pandal is being constructed in the style of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, while preparations for the idol and lighting are also underway.
A four-day programme has been planned. Clothes will be distributed among poor and needy people on the inauguration day, while khichuri bhog will be served as special Mahaprasad on Maha Ashtami.
Cultural programmes featuring various artists will also be held during the four days at Atal Market in Santirbazar.
Haldar said the Traders’ Committee organises the puja on a grand scale every year and this year’s arrangements will continue that tradition. The organisers said their aim is to bring people together and promote harmony, unity and women’s empowerment through the festival.
The women-led initiative has generated enthusiasm among residents and traders in Santirbazar ahead of the Durga Puja.
