Agartala, August 26: Amtali Police have intensified their crackdown on habitual property offenders, arresting two suspected thieves in an intelligence-based operation conducted in the area on Tuesday night.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sourav Das of Jirania and Gouranga Das of Bishalgarh.
According to Rana Chatterjee the Officer-in-Charge of Amtali Police Station, the operation was launched as part of an ongoing investigation into a theft reported from the residence of Haridas Sutradhar in the Amtali police station area. Police said they gathered intelligence and also received assistance from local residents during the investigation.
“Two notorious thieves have been arrested following an intelligence-based operation. They will be forwarded to court today, and police will seek their remand for further interrogation,” the police officer said.
Police further stated that the names of the two accused had also surfaced during the interrogation of persons arrested earlier in connection with theft cases. Investigators are now examining their possible links to other theft incidents reported in the Amtali area.
The officer said police are also reopening and investigating older theft cases in the area in an effort to detect as many cases as possible. Efforts are underway to recover stolen property, though police said details of the seized items would be disclosed later as part of the investigation.
Amid concerns over an increase in theft incidents, police have also stepped up night patrolling across the Amtali police station area and are maintaining close surveillance on suspicious movements.
The police officer said the area remains under close control and that action against habitual property offenders will continue. He also urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with the police to prevent theft and other property-related crimes.
The two arrested suspects are expected to be produced before a court, where police will seek custody for further investigation.
