Khumulwng: Aug 23. The 43rd Foundation Day of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), also observed as Sixth Schedule Day, was celebrated at the council headquarters in Khumulwng today with a grand rally and floral tributes to leaders who fought for the establishment of the autonomous council.
Addressing the gathering, TTAADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Runiel Debbarma said the Sixth Schedule status granted to the Council had not been enough to fulfil the aspirations of the Tiprasa people. He pointed to the Council’s limited powers over land rights, finances and legislative matters and called for greater constitutional safeguards.
Debbarma also appealed for support to the leadership of royal scion Pradyot Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarma in pursuing a constitutional solution for the Tiprasa people.
The programme was attended by AARC Member Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, EM C.K. Jamatia, MLAs Ranjit Debbarma, Biswajit Kalai and Swapna Debbarma, and several MDCs.
Recalling the movement for Sixth Schedule status, Debbarma acknowledged the contributions of Shyama Charan Tripura, Drao Kumar Reang, Harinath Debbarma and Nagendra Jamatia.
He said the TTAADC administration would continue working for the welfare and development of the people despite its limited financial powers.
