Tripura, 22 August 2026: A suspected mastermind involved in a house burglary in Agartala has been arrested from Narayanpur in Gandacherra, while another person accused of receiving the stolen goods has been detained from Ambassa.
According to police, the theft took place on the night of August 11 at a residence in the Chittaranjan Road area. Gold ornaments weighing around 8–10 tolas, approximately ₹1 lakh in cash, a laptop, desktop computer, monitor and other electronic items were allegedly stolen.
Following a complaint lodged at East Agartala Police Station, police launched an investigation using CCTV footage, GPS-based location tracking and confidential sources. Acting on specific information, an investigation team led by Inspector Rakesh Debbarma, along with TSR personnel, conducted an operation in Narayanpur, Gandacherra, and arrested the alleged mastermind.
Police also detained a suspected receiver from Ambassa for allegedly purchasing the stolen items.
So far, police have recovered a laptop, desktop computer, monitor, three mobile phones, bags and several suspected gold ornaments. The recovered items are currently being verified. Police estimated the value of the recovered property at around ₹2.5–4 lakh.
East Agartala Police Station OC Krishna Dhan Sarkar said the main accused is suspected to be involved in several theft cases in Agartala as well as other districts. Both accused are expected to be produced before the court seeking police remand for further investigation and recovery of additional stolen property.
The police officer also said that another suspected mastermind has already been identified and efforts are underway to arrest him. He added that both urban and village policing mechanisms are being used to identify and apprehend those involved in the recent theft cases.
