Tripura, 20 August 2026: E-auto drivers staged a road blockade at Tilabazar on Friday, protesting the poor condition of the Rangaouti–Kailashahar Dak Bungalow Road, which they alleged has remained in a state of disrepair for nearly three years. The protesters burnt tyres and blocked the road, demanding immediate repair work.
According to the protesters, the road was constructed at a cost of around ₹7.5 crore, but several sections reportedly deteriorated within months of completion. Despite repeated demands, the Public Works Department (PWD) has allegedly failed to undertake permanent repairs.
The protesters claimed that the ongoing maintenance work was merely symbolic and demanded clarification over the quality of the original construction. They also raised allegations of corruption and demanded accountability for the expenditure.
“We want the repair work to begin within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, we will continue the road blockade indefinitely,” one of the protesters said.
DCM Mati Debbarma reached the spot after receiving information about the blockade. Police, TSR personnel and fire service personnel were deployed to control the situation. The protest caused traffic congestion on both sides of the road.
The protesters said their agitation would continue until a PWD official arrives at the spot and gives a clear assurance regarding the immediate repair of the road.
