Tripura, 18 August 2026: A man was arrested and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody today for allegedly raping a minor girl with disabilities in the Manubazar police station area under Sabroom sub-division.
The accused, identified as Jaharlal Debnath, was produced before the Special POCSO Court in Belonia, which ordered his judicial custody for 14 days.
Sabroom SDPO Diptanu Biswas said police received information about the alleged sexual assault last night and subsequently received a written complaint at Manubazar Police Station. A special police team was formed and sent to the reported location. During a search operation, the team traced and detained Debnath, brought him to the police station and formally arrested him after completing the required legal procedures.
Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions applicable to offences against persons with disabilities.
The accused was produced before the court on Tuesday. Police said a detailed investigation into the alleged offence is underway.
