Tripura, 10 August 2026: A violent clash between two groups allegedly linked to a smuggling trade left three people injured in the Natun Bazar area under Sonamura police station, triggering tension in the locality.
According to local sources, an argument reportedly broke out between the two groups over alleged smuggling activities and later escalated into a physical confrontation. Three people sustained injuries during the clash.
The injured were identified as Saiful Islam, Rubel and Zakir. They were initially taken to the Sonamura Social Health Centre, where doctors provided first aid and treated their wounds. All three were subsequently referred to the district hospital for further treatment and CT scans.
Speaking after the incident, one of the injured alleged that members of a group had been using the area along his residential boundary to allegedly smuggle drugs, including Phensedyl. He claimed that he had objected to the activity and had previously reported the matter.
The injured man further alleged that he had received threats after a complaint was filed, including an alleged offer of ₹50,000 to withdraw the case. He claimed that several people later attacked him with sharp weapons, rods and sticks, and alleged that some of the attackers were carrying pistols.
He named several individuals whom he claimed to have recognised among the attackers. These allegations, however, have not been independently verified.
A doctor at the Sonamura health centre said that all three injured persons had active bleeding and head injuries when they were brought in. They were given stitches and primary treatment before being referred for CT scans and further medical evaluation. According to the doctor, one of the three was comparatively more seriously injured.
Meanwhile, police have started investigating the incident. The exact circumstances behind the clash, the alleged smuggling activities and the identities of those involved are yet to be established.
