Agartala, August 9, 2026: Two youths were arrested with 22.160 kg of suspected contraband ganja during a checking operation at Agartala Railway Station on Sunday afternoon.
According to the police, SI Pankaj Biswas of Agartala GRPS and a team were conducting checking at Platform No. 1 at around 2 PM when they noticed two youths entering the platform through a route other than the main entrance, carrying two pitthu bags.
Their suspicious movement prompted the police team to detain them and search their bags. During the search, police recovered a total of 22.160 kg of suspected ganja.
The arrested persons have been identified as 20-year-old Asish Das, son of Nanda Dulal Das of Madhuban Resettlement Colony under Amtali Police Station, and 19-year-old Hriday Saha, son of Bulan Saha of Laxman Para under Amtali Police Station.
Police estimated the black-market value of the seized ganja at approximately Rs 5 lakh.
During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly told police that they had procured the ganja from Sipahijala district and had come to Agartala Railway Station with the intention of transporting it by train to another state for illegal sale.
The seized contraband was recovered from the pitthu bags carried by the two accused, following which they were arrested and brought to Agartala GRPS for further investigation.
A specific case has been registered at Agartala GRPS under Case No. 2026GRP053 under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Police said the accused will be produced before the court on Monday as the investigation into the case continues.
