Tripura, August 7: An auto-rickshaw owner was left shocked after miscreants allegedly vandalised his vehicle and stole several valuable parts, including the battery, in Ambedkar Nagar under Ward No. 2 of Ambassa Municipal Council.
The victim, Sujit Debnath, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, said he had been parking his auto-rickshaw in the Malakar Basti area for nearly two years without facing any security issues. As part of his routine, he parked the vehicle at around 9:30 pm on Thursday and returned home.
When he came back on Friday morning, he first noticed that the front glass of the auto-rickshaw had been damaged. On further inspection, he found that the battery, seat, stepney tyre and several other components had been stolen. The thieves had also cut the battery cables from beneath the vehicle before fleeing.
“I have been parking my auto here for the last two years, and nothing like this has ever happened. I never imagined such an incident would take place overnight,” Sujit Debnath told reporters.
After discovering the theft, he informed leaders of the local auto-rickshaw association, who rushed to the spot. Ambassa Police also arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information and have registered the matter for investigation.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the theft and vandalism and are trying to identify those involved.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and auto-rickshaw drivers, who are demanding enhanced security measures to prevent similar crimes in the area.
