Tripura, July 27: A dismissed teacher from the 10,323 teachers’ group was arrested on Monday after police allegedly recovered 43 bottles of Escof cough syrup from his residence during a raid in West Ganki village, near Khowai town.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Pallab Gop, son of Pratap Chandra Gop. Acting on a tip-off that a large quantity of the codeine-based cough syrup had been stockpiled at his house, Khowai Police launched a search operation after informing the competent authority.
The raid was conducted in the presence of DSP (Crime) Samir Roy, Executive Magistrate Trishula Barma, and independent witnesses. Police said the search was carried out strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the operation, officers recovered 43 bottles of Escof cough syrup, which were seized following the prescribed legal procedure. Police stated that the quantity recovered suggested the syrup was allegedly intended for illegal sale rather than personal use.
Following the seizure, Pallab Gop was taken into custody, and a case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act. The seized bottles have been taken to the police station for further legal formalities, and an investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and whether others were involved in the alleged trafficking network.
The arrest has sparked widespread discussion in Khowai and the surrounding areas, as the accused is a former teacher associated with the dismissed 10,323 teachers’ group. Police said further investigation is in progress.
