Agartala, July 26: Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 136th edition of Mann Ki Baat carried a special message for the people of Tripura by highlighting the state’s rich cultural heritage and the need to preserve its endangered folk traditions.
Speaking after attending a community listening session at Naniamura Alimuddin JB School, the Mayor said the Prime Minister’s reference to Tripura’s traditional musical instrument, Chongpreng, and his appreciation of folk artist Suraj Kumar Debbarma for preserving the art form had filled the people of the state with pride.
“The Prime Minister reminded us that protecting our folk traditions, indigenous musical instruments and cultural heritage is the responsibility of the present generation. His words are a source of inspiration for the people of Tripura,” Majumdar said.
He noted that Mann Ki Baat has consistently highlighted inspiring stories from across the country and serves as a platform to encourage citizens to contribute towards nation-building. According to the Mayor, the latest episode not only focused on preserving India’s cultural diversity but also celebrated achievements in sports, Olympiads, handicrafts and various developmental initiatives.
Majumdar said the Prime Minister’s message went beyond cultural preservation, inspiring people to participate in the country’s progress while remaining connected to their roots. He added that such recognition at the national level would motivate young people in Tripura to take pride in their traditions and work towards preserving the state’s unique cultural identity.
The community listening programme was organised by the Tripura Pradesh BJP and witnessed the participation of corporator Shampa Sen Sarkar, party leaders, workers and local residents. Participants listened to the Prime Minister’s address, which also touched upon recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir, sporting achievements, educational excellence and the promotion of traditional handicrafts.
Adding significance to the day, 26 beneficiaries from Agartala Municipal Corporation’s Ward No. 8 received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The Mayor said the Prime Minister’s address would encourage citizens to protect Tripura’s cultural heritage while strengthening the spirit of unity, development and collective responsibility for building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
