Tripura, July 21: Local residents on Tuesday blocked the Amarpur–Ganda Twisa Bypass at Gatiram Para in Tripura’s Gomati district, protesting over the poor condition of the road, prolonged power outages and the lack of safe drinking water.
According to the protesters, the bypass road has remained in a dilapidated condition for a long time, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and local residents. They alleged that the damaged road has made daily travel difficult and unsafe.
The protesters also claimed that electricity has remained disrupted in the area for the past several days, resulting in an acute drinking water crisis as water supply has been affected.
Demanding immediate repair of the road, restoration of electricity and uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water, the residents staged a road blockade, disrupting vehicular movement along the route.
The protest led to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the bypass, leaving commuters stranded for hours. The demonstrators urged the administration to intervene at the earliest and take concrete steps to resolve the issues permanently.
