Agartala, July 14: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has decided to intensify its demand for a separate Tipraland state and will observe Tipraland Demand Day on August 23, 2026, across Tripura.
The decision was taken following the party’s Core Committee meeting held on July 5 and a subsequent preparatory committee meeting on July 11.
According to a press note issued by IPFT General Secretary Swapna Debbarma, the party will organise a day-long mass sit-in and demonstration in support of its demand for a separate full-fledged Tipraland state comprising the TTAADC areas.
As part of the programme, the party also plans to submit a memorandum on the Tipraland demand to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister.
IPFT has directed all divisional committee presidents and secretaries to send the names of at least five active members from each division to the party’s central office by July 20. The selected members will participate in the August 23 programme.
The party said participation fees and travel allowances for the programme would be decided separately and communicated through an official notification.
IPFT Expresses Concern Over Electoral Roll Revision
In another major decision, the IPFT discussed the ongoing process of preparing a fresh electoral roll through Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The party expressed concern over the inclusion and identification of voters in tribal areas and said a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner of India seeking clarification and appropriate action.
IPFT referred to provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, stating that certain Sixth Schedule tribal areas are treated differently under the law. The party argued that the voter enrolment process should clearly distinguish between TTAADC and non-TTAADC areas to avoid confusion over citizenship and permanent residency eligibility.
A party delegation is also expected to visit Delhi next week to discuss the issue in detail.
The Core Committee further directed all divisional presidents and secretaries to submit the names and telephone numbers of the party’s appointed BLAs to the General Secretary by July 25, 2026.
The IPFT leadership has asked party workers to remain in close contact with the General Secretary for further information and organisational instructions.
