The inaugural session of the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, envisioned as a flagship event to promote the state’s investment potential before national and international investors, was overshadowed by glaring instances of mismanagement and inadequate planning on Thursday. The logistical shortcomings witnessed during the high-profile gathering raised concerns about the state’s preparedness to host an event of such significance, sending an unintended message to the distinguished delegates in attendance.
The conclave brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, representatives from nine countries, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors from across India and abroad. However, despite the presence of several high-profile guests, the organisers appeared ill-equipped to manage the large turnout. One of the most visible shortcomings was the lack of adequate seating arrangements inside the venue. A number of invited guests and business delegates were forced to remain standing during the inaugural session, while workers continued bringing additional chairs even after the programme had commenced, highlighting poor planning and coordination.
Participants also expressed dissatisfaction over basic infrastructural arrangements within the venue. Inadequate lighting and insufficient electric fans in several sections of the International Fair Ground at Hapania caused discomfort to attendees, particularly during the packed inaugural programme. Such lapses, many felt, diminished the overall experience of an event designed to project Tripura as an emerging investment destination.
Outside the venue, traffic management emerged as another area of concern. Poor regulation of vehicular movement led to congestion around the fairground, inconveniencing visitors, delegates, and investors arriving for the conclave. Several attendees observed that smoother coordination among the organising agencies could have significantly improved access and overall event management.
The Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 represents one of the state government’s most ambitious initiatives to attract investment, promote industrial growth, and showcase Tripura’s economic potential on a global platform. Given the presence of foreign delegates and leading business personalities, many participants believed that meticulous planning and flawless execution were essential to reinforce investor confidence.
As the conclave continues on Friday, expectations remain high that the organisers, particularly the Industries and Commerce Department, will swiftly address the logistical deficiencies witnessed on the opening day. Prompt corrective measures could help restore confidence and ensure that the remaining sessions leave a favourable and lasting impression on prospective investors, entrepreneurs, and international delegates considering Tripura as a future investment destination.
