Tripura Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia on Tuesday called on his Assam counterpart, Ranjit Kumar Dass, during a visit to Assam, where the two leaders discussed issues related to legislative functioning and parliamentary practices.
The courtesy meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and focused on strengthening cooperation and the exchange of best practices between the legislative institutions of the two northeastern states.
During the interaction, both Speakers discussed various aspects of Assembly functioning, including legislative procedures, committee systems, and measures to enhance the efficiency of parliamentary work. They also exchanged views on promoting greater coordination among state legislatures in the Northeast.
The meeting underscored the importance of sharing experiences and adopting innovative practices to make legislative institutions more transparent, efficient and people-centric.
Rampada Jamatia appreciated the initiatives taken by the Assam Legislative Assembly in modernising its functioning and enhancing public engagement. He also highlighted the need for continued collaboration among state legislatures to strengthen democratic institutions and improve governance.
Ranjit Kumar Dass welcomed the Tripura Assembly Speaker and expressed confidence that such interactions would further deepen ties between the two Assemblies. He said regular exchanges between legislators and parliamentary officials help promote mutual learning and contribute to the effective functioning of legislative bodies.
The visit is seen as part of ongoing efforts to foster closer institutional cooperation among northeastern states and encourage the exchange of ideas on legislative reforms, capacity building and good governance.
