Kailashahar, 30 April– Anupam Pal: A tragic incident occurred in the Radhanagar Gram Panchayat area under Fatikroy Police Station in Unakoti district following several days of heavy rainfall. On Wednesday evening, the mud wall of the kitchen at the house of Nibas Malakar suddenly collapsed, trapping his two children, Ankush and Ayush, underneath.
Family members and locals quickly rescued the children and rushed them to Fatikroy Primary Health Centre. However, the attending doctor declared five-year-old Ankush Malakar dead. His brother Ayush, who was seriously injured, has been referred to Unakoti District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area. The already impoverished family has been struck by deep tragedy. Upon receiving the news, police from Fatikroy Police Station reached the hospital. The body has been kept in the morgue for post-mortem.
Continuous heavy rainfall has raised concerns among locals, as such accidents may become more frequent.
