Khowai, Apr 16: Re-polling in two polling stations of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections was conducted peacefully on Thursday under heightened security, officials said.
The re-poll was held at 5-Nandakumar Para JB School under the 11-Maharani–Teliamura constituency and at 17-Hazari Para polling station under the 10-Kulai Champahour constituency, following directives from the State Election Commission over reported irregularities during the earlier voting.
Polling began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm amid tight security arrangements. Officials said voters exercised their franchise without any untoward incidents, although a sense of caution and curiosity was visible among locals.
Ahead of vote counting scheduled for Friday, elaborate security measures have been put in place across Khowai subdivision. Movement of vehicles and the general public has been restricted around the counting centres, particularly in the Office Tilla area, to maintain law and order.
Vote counting for the 9-Asharambari–Halahali and 12-Ramchandra Ghat constituencies will take place at the Khowai Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, while counting for Maharani–Teliamura will be held at the Teliamura SDM office.
According to Khowai Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadeeshwar Reddy, counting in Teliamura will be conducted across eight tables in six rounds, while Khowai will have ten tables with five rounds.
Adequate deployment of police and central forces has been ensured, and separate arrangements have been made for party workers to prevent clashes, he added.
