Agartala, 31 Dec 2025: A one-day workshop under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) was held today to review progress and strengthen implementation of the project. The programme was inaugurated by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, who said the initiative has opened new avenues for the economic development of Indigenous communities in the state.
Addressing the gathering, the minister stated that TRESP is playing a crucial role in improving livelihoods and empowering Indigenous people across Tripura. Through this project, people are gaining opportunities in various sectors, and Tripura is steadily moving ahead among the northeastern states in multiple areas of development. He thanked all stakeholders associated with the project and expressed hope that TRESP would continue to contribute significantly to the overall development of Indigenous communities in the coming years.
Speaking on the occasion, Tribal Welfare Department Secretary Dr. Shamik Kumar informed that the TRESP project started in March 2024 and will continue till June 2029. He said the project primarily focuses on livelihood development, education, and improvement of road and communication infrastructure. In the livelihood sector, the project is working in areas such as agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, covering 23 Indigenous blocks across 8 districts of the state.
Senior officials present at the workshop included Director of Tribal Welfare Subhashish Das, TRLM CEO Tadit Kanti Chakma, and Director of Secondary Education N. C. Sharma, among others. During the programme, Minister Bikash Debbarma also distributed laptops to project staff to facilitate smoother operations and ensure proper and accurate data recording at the district level.
