Agartala, December 30, 2025: In a major security operation, a joint team of Tripura Police, Assam Police, and other supporting units arrested an active member of a Bangladesh-based militant outfit from the Joypur area under West Police Station on Tuesday morning.
The arrested individual has been identified as Jagir Miah (33), son of Hanif Miah, a resident of Joypur village. He had been absconding in connection with STF Police Station Case No. 06/2025 dated December 28, 2025.
According to police sources, Jagir Miah has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 150, 152, and 113(5), along with stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, namely Sections 10, 13, 16, 38, 39, and 40.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused is an active member of “Imam Mahmude Kafela,” a sub-organisation that operates as an ideological offshoot of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Security agencies stated that further interrogation is underway to ascertain the extent of his network, cross-border links, and possible involvement in other unlawful activities. Officials have termed the arrest as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb extremist activities in the region.
