Agartala: Dec 28. The fourth Tripura State Conference of the Tripura Chakma Social Council was held on Sunday at Laljuri Community Hall under Kanchanpur sub-division, where a new executive committee for the next three years was formed and Shanti Bikash Chakma was re-elected as the Chief Social Head.
The conference began around 2 pm with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by senior Chakma social leaders MLA Shambhulal Chakma, Chief Social Head of the Tripura Chakma Social Council Shanti Bikash Chakma, and several prominent Chakma community leaders were present. Leaders from other communities, including Tripura community head Birendra Tripura and Reang community head Babujay Reang, also attended the event.
Representatives from 328 Chakma villages across Tripura participated in the conference. During the session, the previous committee was dissolved and a new 41-member committee was constituted. All newly elected members were administered the oath of office.
Addressing the media after the conference, Chief Social Head Shanti Bikash Chakma said he would discharge the responsibility entrusted to him by the Chakma community with honesty and dedication. He added that the council would continue efforts to ensure the implementation of customary laws and intensify its movement to secure official language status for the Chakma language in Tripura.
Overall, the conference reaffirmed the community’s commitment to social unity, cultural preservation, and constitutional recognition of Chakma rights in the state.
