Agartala: Dec 28. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday said that rising violence and the continuous increase in prices of essential commodities are choking the common people of Tripura. He was addressing the 10th State Conference of Sabhasundar Unnayan Samiti, which began at Bagma in Udaipur.
Speaking as the chief speaker, Sarkar alleged that the state has been witnessing growing “anarchy” since 2018, with people no longer able to live in peace. He cited incidents of violence, political terror, and administrative silence, and called upon democracy-loving citizens to unite and intensify struggles against the prevailing situation.
Sarkar said the unchecked rise in prices of essential goods has pushed ordinary people into a serious survival crisis. He accused the central government of remaining indifferent while inflation continues to burden the masses.
Referring to the law-and-order situation, Sarkar alleged that murders, extortion, attacks on opposition workers, and crimes against women have become frequent. He claimed that administrative inaction has further worsened the situation, forcing people to slowly rise in protest.
Earlier, the conference was inaugurated with floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial. CPI-M Central Committee member Ratan Bhowmik, Dilip Dutta, and other state-level leaders were present.
According to organisers, 280 delegates from 23 subdivisions across the state are participating in the conference. The Bagma market area has been decorated to mark the occasion.
