Agartala: Dec 26. In a major anti-narcotics drive, police on Thursday destroyed a large ganja plantation at West Buraghat area under Kakraban Police Station in Gomati district, acting on specific secret intelligence.
The operation was carried out on December 26 between 8:45 am and 10:30 am at South Rani ADC Village. During the drive, around 1,500 ganja plants were uprooted and destroyed from nearly three kani of land.
The operation was led in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Udaipur Debanjali Ray, and included SI (UB) Samir Das of Kakraban Police Station, other second officers, and police staff. The drive was conducted with substantial security support from 15 personnel of TSR 5th Battalion and CRPF personnel of B Company, 124 Battalion.
Police sources said the coordinated action was part of an intensified crackdown on illegal cultivation of narcotic substances in the region. Further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the plantation.
