Agartala: Dec 26. Panic spread across Udaipur’s Maharani area after a car was set on fire barely 200 metres from the Maharani police outpost late at night. An Aura car bearing registration number (TR-03-Q-0285) owned by Papai Paul was completely gutted after miscreants allegedly poured petrol and torched it.
Driver Nayan Paul stated that the incident occurred under the cover of darkness. Several other vehicles were parked nearby, yet only this car was targeted. At around 10 pm, the vehicle was found intact, but within two hours, it was reduced to ashes. The car was parked in front of the Forest Office, raising serious security concerns.
Police sources revealed that around 40 EMIs of the vehicle are pending, prompting speculation over financial or insurance-related motives. However, no known enmity has surfaced so far.
The probe took a new turn after it emerged that Nayan Paul had gone to Dak Mura with Rahul Datta earlier that day. Later, Rahul allegedly made 15–20 calls and sent WhatsApp voice messages demanding money. Shortly after, the car was set ablaze.
Under SI Dipu Debbarma, Maharani police are investigating all possible angles.
