Sonamura, Dec 25: A venomous monocled cobra was rescued from a residential house at Baghaiyarchar village under Sonamura subdivision on Thursday evening and later released safely into the forest area of the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary.
The incident occurred around 6 pm at the house of Paresh Debnath, where the snake was found hiding inside a hole beneath a window, close to a bed in an old mud-walled room. Family members noticed unusual movement near the spot and alerted neighbours, who confirmed the presence of the snake.

Notably, the hole was located right beside the bed where family members usually sleep, raising serious safety concerns. Following confirmation, members of the Animal Aid Alliance were informed.
Rescuers Asim Majumdar and Lokai Dey reached the spot promptly and successfully rescued the venomous cobra without causing harm to either the residents or the reptile. The snake was later released into the Trishna forest to ensure its safety and natural habitat.
Local wildlife volunteers said that over the past four months, around 170 snakes have been rescued from human habitations and released into the forests of the Trishna sanctuary, underscoring the importance of safe rescue and conservation efforts.
