Agartala: Dec 24. A large check dam has been constructed at Bruha Para or Haduklau Para under the Dhalai district, nestled in the Atharamura hills, with financial assistance from the Forest Department. Built during the 2024-25 financial year, the project aims to ease local water scarcity and promote self-reliance through fish farming.
The check dam, developed under the Ambassa Range of the Forest Department, spans nearly three kani of land.
According to Forest Department official Haradhan Pal, the primary objective is to ensure year-round water availability and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for residents. He added that the government plans to construct more such dams in the future as part of broader development efforts.
Bruha Para is home to the rehabilitated Reang community who had been rehabilitated from Mizoram. At present, around 440 families have been resettled in the area, following which several developmental works have been undertaken.
Local residents said the dam has already brought significant benefits, particularly in terms of water availability. However, they also pointed out certain issues, including poor road connectivity and the lack of proper steps to access the dam area. They expressed hope that the government would address these concerns in the coming days.
Despite minor challenges, residents acknowledged that the construction of the check dam has positively impacted their daily lives and holds promise for long-term development of the area.
