Tripura, 24 Dec 2025: Auto drivers across Tripura on Tuesday lodged a formal complaint against Bajaj Auto, alleging large-scale irregularities in the sale of auto-rickshaws without mandatory permits. The FIR was filed at the East Agartala Police Station, following a protest by hundreds of affected auto owners.
According to the complainants, more than 500 auto-rickshaws were allegedly sold over the past three to four months without valid permits, in clear violation of transport regulations. The drivers claimed that despite Agartala already facing persistent traffic congestion, such a large number of vehicles were allowed to be sold and delivered without proper authorization.
The auto owners further alleged that the company’s local showroom collected additional amounts ranging between ₹20,000 and ₹30,000 from each buyer, assuring them that permits would be arranged. However, even after months, no permits were issued. As a result, drivers operating these vehicles have been repeatedly fined by traffic police, pushing many into financial hardship.
Addressing the media, representatives of the auto workers said that auto drivers remain one of the most deprived sections of the working population in the state. While they welcomed companies and businesses that contribute to Tripura’s development, they accused the Bajaj showroom of exploiting workers for profit.
“The vehicles were handed over without permits, despite clear government rules. Because of this, drivers are being stopped on the roads and fined repeatedly. Many are struggling to run their families,” one protester said.
The auto workers claimed they possess a detailed list of more than 500 affected drivers. They demanded strict legal action against the showroom management, immediate suspension of the showroom’s operations, and compensation for those who have suffered financial losses.
The matter is now under police investigation, while the drivers have urged the state government to intervene and ensure accountability to prevent further harassment of auto workers.
