In a major anti-narcotics operation carried out early Tuesday morning amid dense fog, Jatrapur Police successfully destroyed a massive quantity of mature cannabis plants at multiple locations within the police station’s jurisdiction.
The operation was led by Yatrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Siti Kanta Bardhan, who headed a large contingent of police personnel. According to the OC, the drive began around 7:00 am with the participation of all officers and constables of the police station, along with TSR jawans from the 9th, 11th, and 14th battalions.
The first phase of the operation was conducted at Jagatrampur’s ADC Village, specifically in the southern Taichamar forest area. Police teams destroyed cannabis plantations spread across 12 separate plots in the forest zone. After completing the operation there, the force returned to Kathalia.
Subsequently, the team proceeded northward from the Kathalia commercial area, traveling nearly 12 kilometers along the Sonamura–Belonia bypass road. The second phase of the drive took place in the Thammamura forest area of South Paharpur, where cannabis plants cultivated across 10 plots were cut down and destroyed.
By the end of the day’s operation, police had eradicated cannabis plantations from a total of 22 gardens. Officials estimated that nearly one lakh cannabis plants were destroyed during the coordinated drive, marking one of the largest such operations in the region.
Speaking to the media around noon, the Officer-in-Charge confirmed the success of the mission and reiterated the police department’s commitment to combating illegal drug cultivation. He stated that similar anti-drug operations would continue in the coming days to curb narcotics-related activities and maintain law and order in the area.
Police have emphasized that strict surveillance and sustained action will be maintained to prevent the re-emergence of such illegal cultivation in forest and remote areas.
