Agartala: Dec 22. In a step aimed at supporting patients and promoting women’s self-reliance, the Khowai Municipal Council today inaugurated ‘Sampoorna’, a canteen at the Khowai District Hospital premises. The canteen will provide hygienic food at affordable prices, primarily benefiting patients and their attendants.
The canteen was formally inaugurated by Khowai Municipal Council Chairman Debashish Nath Sharma, who said the initiative is part of a broader effort to empower women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by entrusting them with responsibilities in government institutions. He also announced that more such canteens will be opened across different parts of Khowai town in the coming days.
The responsibility of running the Sampoorna Canteen has been handed over to the ‘Tapur Tupur’ Self-Help Group. Chairman Sharma emphasized that all food served at the canteen will be prepared in a completely hygienic manner and sold at reasonable rates, keeping in mind the needs of hospital visitors.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Zilla Parishad member Anukul Das, District Hospital doctor Arindam Debbarma, councillors of the municipal council, and other officials.
The initiative has been welcomed as a people-friendly move, combining public welfare with women’s economic empowerment basically, a win-win that actually makes sense.
