Teliamura, Dec 21: A two-day celebration of Tripura’s indigenous heritage commenced at Manikbazar in Teliamura subdivision on Saturday evening, drawing large participation from local communities. The Tring Festival, coupled with a Tribal Food Festival, was formally opened by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma.
The event seeks to promote traditional tribal food practices, cultural expressions, and inter-community bonding by engaging younger generations with their heritage. Food stalls run by women’s self-help groups showcased a range of indigenous dishes prepared from organic ingredients, according to officials present at the venue.

Cultural troupes from across Tripura performed age-old dance forms, folk songs, and drum-based musical presentations. The vibrant costumes, rhythmic performances, and aromas from tribal kitchens created an immersive traditional ambience for visitors.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Debbarma underscored the need for collective involvement in steering young people away from drugs. He emphasized that cultural festivals and traditional food practices can promote healthier lifestyles while reinforcing community ties. The minister also highlighted the economic potential of local tribal food enterprises.

Organisers stated that the annual event has evolved into a platform for cultural preservation and awareness about indigenous food habits. They added that the festival contributes to strengthening social harmony and encouraging self-reliance among tribal communities in the region.
