Woman Held with 8.5 kg Ganja While Smuggling by Passenger Bus; Churaibari Police Foil Attempt
Tripura, 20 Dec 2025: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police arrested a woman while she was allegedly smuggling ganja from Dharmanagar to Assam by a passenger bus.
The accused has been identified as Asha Devi (26), a resident of Samastipur district in Bihar. She was apprehended on Saturday evening during routine checking at the Churaibari Watch Post after a passenger bus bearing registration number AS11BC-0462 crossed the Tripura–Assam border.

According to police sources, the woman was travelling from Dharmanagar to Silchar. During a thorough search of her bag, police recovered six packets containing approximately 8.5 kilograms of dry ganja. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹2 lakh in the black market.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly stated that she was carrying the ganja from Dharmanagar to Badarpur by bus and planned to travel onward to Bihar by train.
A case has been registered against her under the NDPS Act, and she will be produced before the Sribhumi district court for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed officer-in-charge of the Churaibari Watch Post stated that the police will maintain zero tolerance against drug trafficking and that anti-narcotics operations will continue without compromise.
