Agartala: Dec 19. Gomati district is set to begin an Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Drive aiming to ensure that no child under five is left unvaccinated against polio. The drive will establish 370 vaccination booths across the district on December 21, targeting nearly 36,976 children. Each child will receive two doses of the oral polio vaccine, regardless of previous vaccination status.
A press conference was held at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office in Tepania, organized by the Gomati District Health Department under the National Health Mission and Family Welfare Association. Present at the event were CMO Dr. Kamal Reang and District Immunization Officer Dr. Chiranjit Noatia.
Dr. Reang emphasized that while India has been declared polio-free since 2014, the risk of the virus crossing from neighboring countries remains. To address this, special teams of health workers, ASHA workers, and volunteers have been formed to reach remote and hard-to-reach areas.
For children who cannot visit booths, door-to-door vaccination will be conducted on December 22 and 23. The vaccines are safe, effective, and free of cost, and the district administration has urged parents, community members, local representatives, and media to support the campaign to ensure complete coverage.
