Tripura, 18 Dec 2025: North District Police on Thursday achieved a significant breakthrough in the Prasenjit death case with the arrest of three prime accused from Assam’s Sribhumi area. The arrested persons include two women—Sangita Bhattacharjee and Susmita Bhattacharjee—and a youth, Sourav Bhattacharjee. Following their arrest, the accused were brought to Churaibari Police Station for further legal procedures.
Confirming the development, Avinash Rai, Superintendent of Police, North Tripura, stated that police began an intensive investigation immediately after the case was registered. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team conducted an operation in Karimganj district and apprehended the accused on Thursday morning.
Police sources said the arrested individuals will be produced before the court shortly, and further investigation will continue in accordance with due legal process. The administration plans to interrogate the accused to gather additional information relevant to the case.
Meanwhile, in view of the prevailing tension in Dharmanagar, the Superintendent of Police appealed to the public to maintain peace and calm. He said that while the demand for justice is legitimate and respected, certain elements are attempting to mislead the movement. He also cautioned that any obstruction to police work or attempts to take the law into one’s own hands could slow down the investigation.
The police administration has assured that justice will be ensured at the earliest through lawful means and urged citizens not to pay heed to rumours.
In a major development in the Prasenjit death case, three accused—Sangita Bhattacharjee, Susmita Bhattacharjee, and Sourav Bhattacharjee—were produced before the court on Thursday, where their bail pleas were rejected and they were remanded to police custody till December 30.
According to case details, an FIR was registered on December 14, 2025, at Dharmanagar Police Station under FIR No. 122/2025. Police registered the case under four sections of law and immediately launched an investigation into the matter.
During the course of the investigation, acting on specific intelligence inputs, police apprehended the three accused from the Churaibari–Assam border area and brought them to Tripura for legal proceedings. Following their arrest, the accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
The court proceedings were presided over by Debolina Clickar. During the hearing, the prosecution strongly opposed the bail applications of the accused, citing the seriousness of the offence and the ongoing nature of the investigation. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail pleas.
Subsequently, the court remanded all three accused to police custody till December 30 and directed the investigating agency to continue interrogation as per legal procedure. The court also instructed the police to carry out further questioning of the accused in custody to collect additional evidence and information linked to the case.
Meanwhile, police officials stated that the investigation is progressing steadily and that all aspects of the case are being examined. Authorities reiterated that the probe is being conducted strictly within the framework of law and assured that justice will be ensured through due legal process.
The Prasenjit death case has drawn significant public attention in Dharmanagar and surrounding areas, with citizens closely monitoring the developments as the investigation continues.
