Agartala: Dec 19. A hardline member of the outlawed Tripura United National Front (TUNF), identified as Karnajoy Reang alias Latha, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon from Damchhara in North Tripura district following a joint operation by police, TSR jawans and intelligence agencies.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team from Damchhara Police Station, assisted by TSR personnel and intelligence officials, conducted a raid at around 1:45 pm on December 18 at the residence of Ananda Reang in the Kargil Tila area under Damchhara PS. During the operation, the accused was successfully apprehended.
The arrested militant has been identified as Karnajoy Reang alias Latha, son of Lieutenant Debkumar Reang, a known TUNF cadre. He is a resident of Bagchhara in Hailakandi district of Assam.
According to police sources, Karnajoy Reang is an accused in Vanghmun Police Station case No. 2025VGM007, registered under Sections 61(2)(a), 148, 310 and 4 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
For security reasons, the arrested militant has been kept in Kanchanpur Police Station custody. Further legal proceedings are underway as per law.
