Agartala: Dec 17. Putting constitutional rights and indigenous interests, the Teliamura divisional committee of the Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad today submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, demanding immediate action on a series of long-pending issues.
A detailed memorandum was handed over to the SDM, with key demands including implementation of the 125th Constitutional Amendment to grant greater financial and administrative powers to the TTAADC, inclusion of the Kokborok language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the amended Forest Act.
The deputation was led by Arun Debbarma, Arpana Kalai and Ratan Kishore Jamatia. Other major demands highlighted in the memorandum included increasing ration allocations while curbing corruption in the public distribution system, ensuring permanent employment opportunities for unemployed youth, strict action against drug abuse and illegal trade, and guaranteeing proper roads, safe drinking water and uninterrupted electricity in ADC areas.
Earlier in the day, a preparatory meeting was held at the CPI-M Teliamura divisional office. This was followed by a rally through Teliamura market, where party workers and supporters marched across different parts of the town. Subsequently, a three-member delegation reached the SDM’s office and formally submitted a seven-point charter of demands.
Addressing the media, representatives said that mere policy announcements are not enough for the development of hilly and marginalised areas, stressing that sincere administrative implementation is crucial. They warned that if the demands are not addressed promptly, the organisation would be compelled to intensify its agitation.
Meanwhile, officials at the SDM’s office accepted the memorandum and assured that the demands raised would be examined with due importance.
