Tripura, 16 Dec 2025: In a major boost to the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, Ambassa Police achieved significant success on Monday night, seizing a huge quantity of drugs and psychotropic substances during multiple operations conducted on the basis of specific intelligence inputs.
According to police sources, Ambassa Police laid a trap at the Upanagar Naka point following a tip-off. When a vehicle bearing registration number TR-05-E-0251 arrived at the checkpoint, police personnel conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. During the search, the police recovered 45 grams of drugs and 20,000 Yaba tablets, the estimated market value of which is over ₹1 crore.
In connection with the seizure, five persons, including two women, were arrested. The arrested accused have been identified as Anju Debnath (45), Rakhi Debnath (37), Abhijit Deb (37), Amaresh Debnath (41), and the driver Sujit Pal.
The operation was carried out in the presence of Dhalai District Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirupam Dutta, and police officers Inspector Hannan Rahman, Joy Thapa, and Uttam Kumar Das.
A case has been registered under the BNS Act at Ambassa Police Station as Case No. 38/2025, and the investigation has been entrusted to Inspector Hannan Rahman.
In a separate operation on the same day, acting on another tip-off, Ambassa Police recovered two packets of brown sugar from a person identified as Moijul Mia from the area adjacent to Ambassa Police Station. A separate case has been registered under the BNS Act as Case No. 39/2025, with Sub-Inspector Sushanta Mallik appointed as the investigating officer.
With these two operations combined, Ambassa Police seized narcotics worth approximately ₹1.5 crore in a single day. Providing details of the operations, SDPO Nirupam Dutta stated that investigations are underway to identify the wider network involved in the drug trade, and strict legal action will be taken against all those connected to the case
