Agartala, December 15, 2025: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday shared on social media an official press release issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), announcing that the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned a Final Location Survey (FLS) for a proposed new railway line from Jirania to Bodhjung Nagar in West Tripura.
According to the press release, the proposed railway line will cover a distance of 14 kilometres, and the Final Location Survey has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹42 lakh. The survey marks a crucial preparatory step toward strengthening railway infrastructure and boosting industrial growth in the state.

Bodhjung Nagar is recognised as a major industrial and commercial hub of Tripura, particularly known for resource-based industries such as rubber, bamboo, and food processing. The proposed Jirania–Bodhjung Nagar railway section is expected to create a vital rail corridor for the transportation of industrial goods, benefitting traders and local entrepreneurs while enhancing overall connectivity in the region.
Sharing the update, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the significance of the project for Tripura’s development, noting that improved railway connectivity would not only support industrial expansion but also contribute to economic growth and employment generation.
The Final Location Survey will include a detailed examination of geographical features, soil conditions, proposed bridges, and other engineering aspects. Based on the findings, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Ministry of Railways for further approval and decision-making regarding the construction of the new line.
Officials believe that the project, once implemented, will strengthen supply chains, ensure smoother train operations, and play a key role in uplifting the local economy of Tripura and neighbouring areas.
