Tripura, 15 Dec 2025: Highlighting the government’s commitment to uplifting the poorest and most backward sections of society, Tripura Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma on Monday laid the foundation stone for the District Industrial Centre at Mishnitala, Dharmanagar in North Tripura district.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony held at the ITI campus, the minister said that both the Central and State governments are working with the vision of making people self-reliant by providing opportunities through various government schemes. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, she said the goal is to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat, while the Tripura government is taking continuous initiatives to make the state self-sufficient.

The minister emphasized the importance of using and producing indigenous products and said special importance is being given to domestic manufacturing. Through the Industries and Commerce Department, entrepreneurs are being supported financially and through various training programmes. She added that special focus is being laid on strengthening Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
“Earlier, the number of Self-Help Groups was limited. Today, their number has increased significantly. Around five lakh women are now associated with SHGs, and lakhs of them have become beneficiaries,” she said. She further urged SHGs to take initiatives in producing indigenous products, adding that with the assistance of various departmental schemes, individual entrepreneurs can move towards self-reliance.
Santana Chakma also said that earlier, District Industrial Centres existed only in four districts of the state, but the present government aims to establish such centres in every district. Once operational, the Dharmanagar District Industrial Centre is expected to benefit local youths and contribute to regional development.
Addressing the gathering, North Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath said that Tripura has witnessed widespread development under the present government and that the momentum of progress continues.
Among others present at the programme were MLA Yadab Lal Debnath, Aparna Sinha Debnath, Chairman of Dharmanagar Panchayat Samiti, Tinku Sharma, Chairman of Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti, Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mahua Shankar Debbarma Choudhury, Additional Director of Industries and Commerce Department Sabyasachi Debbarma, and several other officials.
The District Industrial Centre is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore 57 lakh and is expected to play a key role in boosting industrial growth and employment opportunities in North Tripura.
