Agartala: Dec 11. The Dhalai District Drug Inspector, Biswajit Singha Roy, on Thursday conducted sudden raids on multiple medicine shops near Kulai-based Dhalai District Hospital and detected low-quality children’s medicines in several outlets sparking fresh concerns over drug safety in the region.
During the inspection, he checked documents, invoices, and multiple brands of medicines, with special focus on paediatric syrups. At Apollo Pharmacy, he found no pharmacist on duty, which immediately drew his anger. He also reviewed all children’s medicines there.
The inspector told reporters that the department keeps regular watch over pharmacies, collects samples, and tests drug quality. Thursday’s operation prioritized checking medicines used for children. He also instructed shop owners to maintain proper cleanliness.
Singha Roy further informed that the central government has introduced a QR code system for every medicine shop. Customers can scan it, call the toll-free number, and lodge complaints about any medicine-related issue.
He added that discrepancies were found in some children’s cough syrups and that he will report the matter to his higher authorities, who are expected to take action against the pharmacies involved.
