Agartala, 11 Dec 2025: Overflowing drains and garbage accumulation in narrow lanes have long been a challenge for the city. To address this, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday officially launched seven three-wheeler auto hoppers and three sets of mini super suckers during a brief ceremony held at the AMC office.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder inaugurated the new vehicles in the presence of Deputy Mayor Monica Das Dutta, Municipal Commissioner D.K. Chakma, Corporator Ratna Dutta, Nibas Das, and other officials.
Since 2022, the AMC has been working under the mission “Swachh Agartala, Sustha Agartala” to keep the city cleaner and healthier. As part of this ongoing effort, and with support from the state government, these ten new vehicles have been introduced to strengthen waste collection and sanitation services.
According to AMC, ₹39.20 lakhs were spent to procure the seven auto hoppers, while the three sets of mini super suckers cost ₹2.88 crores.
Garbage generated specifically from hotels, restaurants, and fast-food stalls across Agartala will now be collected separately and sent to the Debendra Chandra Nagar Processing Centre. The seven auto hoppers will operate under the supervision of the Sanitary Inspector of the Central Zone.
Since 2018, the state government has undertaken extensive development work across Agartala, including covering long-standing open drains and upgrading flood-control drainage systems. The newly introduced mini super suckers will now make it easier to clean narrow drains, ensuring smooth water flow during the monsoon season. A dedicated agency has been appointed to operate these machines under the Mechanical Division.
Mayor Dipak Majumder, speaking at the launch, said:
“Our government has focused on the overall development of Agartala since the formation of the Municipal Corporation in 2021. To maintain cleanliness and better waste management, we have taken several initiatives over the past four years. Today, we have launched seven auto vans costing nearly ₹40 lakhs, specifically to collect waste generated from hotels and restaurants and transport it efficiently to our processing centre. Additionally, three sets of mini super trucks worth ₹2.88 crores have been added. These smaller vehicles will help us clean the narrow lanes where larger trucks cannot operate. With these additions, our waste management system across Agartala will become much more effective.”
