Agartala, Dec 10: A one-year-old child was reportedly abducted by an unidentified woman from outside Shishu Bihar School in Agartala on Wednesday, triggering panic in the area.
According to the child’s mother, she had left her two children at a passenger shed near the school while she went to use a nearby bathroom. On returning, she found her younger child missing. The four-year-old sibling allegedly told the police that a woman took the baby away in an autorickshaw.
The mother further stated that the family had come to the area to seek alms to arrange money for medical treatment. The child’s father works as a daily wage labourer, and the family belongs to Amtali.
After receiving information, personnel from West Women Police Station and Childline reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The mother and her elder child were later taken to the police station for questioning.
Local residents said the area is covered by CCTV cameras and expressed hope that the surveillance footage would assist police in tracing the missing child.
