Tripura, 8 Dec 2025: The much-anticipated Dumboor Boat Race Competition, which ran for several days with an impressive 47 participating teams, concluded on Sunday with the final round featuring nine top teams. The vibrant closing ceremony was held at Narikel Kunj and attended by TTAADC CEM Purna Chandra Jamatia, EM Rajesh Tripura, MLAs Sanjay Manik Tripura and Nandita Reang Debbarma, along with officials and community representatives.
On behalf of the TTAADC administration, prizes were awarded to the top three winning teams ₹1 lakh for the champion, ₹70,000 for the runner-up, and ₹50,000 for the third-place team.
‘An Initiative Under Bubagra’s Vision’
Addressing the gathering, CEM Purna Chandra Jamatia said the boat race reflects the cultural spirit and community strength of the region and has been organized under the guidance of Bubagra, Royal Scion Pradyot Manikya Debbarma.

He emphasized that the initiative aims to improve the livelihood of local fishermen whose families depend on daily fishing.
“Many families here struggle to survive if they cannot go fishing. To support them, the TTAADC government has distributed 200 boats. Today’s competition is also a way to encourage and uplift their traditional livelihood,” he said.
Promoting Tourism and Cultural Heritage
CEM Jamatia reiterated the potential of Dumboor Lake, describing it as a “pabitra place” a sacred and culturally significant site.
He remarked, “People need not travel outside the state for scenic places like MahaKumbh. Dumboor, Raima–Saima, and our pristine waters are blessings. Our ancestors considered this place sacred.”
He stressed the need to further promote the region’s tourism potential and ensure that the unique history and heritage of Dumboor are communicated to the younger generations.
“We will continue taking new initiatives to promote tourism and support our fishermen,” he added.
A Celebration of Sport, Culture, and Community
The final day drew large crowds, celebrating not just competition but also unity and tradition around Dumboor Lake. Officials expressed pride in being part of an event that strengthens livelihood opportunities while showcasing the natural beauty of the region.
CEM Jamatia expressed gratitude to all participants and community members, noting that the TTAADC will continue working towards sustainable development and cultural preservation.
