Agartala: Dec 07. A joint sit-in demonstration planned by the National Federation of New State (NFNS) and the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) for 15 December 2025 at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances triggered by severe disruptions in air and rail travel. The programme will now be held before or during the Parliament’s Budget Session in February-March 2026.
Organisers said the protest was aimed at pressing two key demands the creation of a separate state and the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2019 in the upcoming winter session. Despite completing final preparations, the organisations were forced to reschedule after the sudden collapse of travel options.
According to NFNS and IPFT leaders, airline and railway services have been hit hard, particularly due to the major operational crisis faced by IndiGo. The impact has spilled over to trains as well, with even online booking options halted. Tripura IPFT initially targeted around 100 participants, but the number surged to 287 delegates, making ticket arrangements impossible under current conditions.
Given the situation, NFNS formally decided to shift the protest to the Budget Session window.
IPFT has instructed all divisional units that those who have already submitted names for ticket booking will have their arrangements made. Others who haven’t submitted names yet have been urged to do so immediately. The responsibility for all travel and logistical arrangements has been assigned to the Treasurer of IPFT and the Treasurer of Youth IPFT, and participants have been asked to coordinate directly with them.
