Agartala: Dec 06. Udaipur sub-division is facing a full-blown crime surge, with a series of thefts and break-ins shaking public confidence in the police and exposing glaring gaps in night surveillance. The three major theft incidents and a bike snatching have left residents anxious, angry, and demanding accountability. The total reported cash loss alone has crossed Rs 1.25 lakh, besides the stolen gold items and a bike.
The latest case from Tainani where thieves broke into the home of Kazi Mia and fled with around Rs 25,000 in cash along with a gold nose-pin.
On the same evening, bike thieves struck again this time at the Maharani Love Story area. Ranjit Kumar Jamatia (37) had gone to buy water at Tushar Chang Bazaar when his motorcycle was snatched.
The situation escalated further in Adipur under Garji Outpost, where back-to-back burglaries took place during the second day of the Buddha Mela. As most residents attended the fair, thieves raided the home of Janu Bibi (45), stealing Rs 30,000 and gold jewellery. Minutes later, they targeted the nearby house of Rahul Reang (32), escaping with Rs 70,000.
While Police informed that several suspects have been detained and a 12-member anti-theft team deployed. But sources allege only four to five members are actively on duty, leaving the initiative half-baked. With crime numbers rising and public trust sinking, the police force now faces growing pressure to deliver visible results before fear becomes the new status quo.
