Agartala, Dec 4: Tripura’s anti-narcotics crackdown intensified on Wednesday as police and BSF teams seized a massive quantity of drugs, including more than 860 kg of ganja, Yaba tablets, brown sugar and heroin, in three separate operations across the state.
Acting on a series of intelligence alerts issued by the Special Branch, Sonamura police launched coordinated raids throughout the day under the supervision of Additional SP (SB) Dr. Chandan Saha.
The largest haul came from the Bijoy Nagar ADC area, where a combined team of Sonamura Police Station, the Special Task Force and the 81 Battalion BSF recovered 24 plastic drums stuffed with dry ganja. The consignment weighed close to 860 kg. Officials confirmed that a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been initiated.
Hours earlier, a separate raid was carried out at Dhanirampur around 5:30 am. Based on precise intelligence, officers from Sonamura PS and 81 BN BSF searched the house of Rina Rani Debbarma (47) of Ward No. 03. The team reportedly recovered about 1,800 Yaba tablets weighing 185 grams and an additional 3 grams of suspected brown sugar. Debbarma was taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
The day’s third seizure was linked to railway security. Acting on Special Branch inputs, security personnel on duty along the Silchar–Agartala route found four soap cases containing 44 grams of heroin at Mungiakami Station as the train approached Teliamura Railway Station. A woman identified as Sumita Das was detained in connection with the recovery.
Authorities said the coordinated operations reflect an intensified effort to dismantle drug networks operating across border-linked zones of the state.
