Agartala, Dec 3: A new Model Skill Centre was inaugurated today under the Department of Skill Development and the Livelihood Directorate of Industries, aiming to empower women living in border areas. The programme was formally launched at the office of the Director of Skill Development.
The primary objective of the Model Skill Centre is to utilise various facilities available at Sukhawati Skill Centre for enhancing the skills of women residing in border regions. From the last week of December, the centre will begin offering training sessions using its 30-seat conference hall, smart classroom, meeting room and other modern amenities.
Skill Development Director Pradip K, speaking on the occasion, said the centre will enable a range of training programmes for women in border villages, including courses for accountant assistants, GDA, tailoring and IT-based modules.
Manager of Tripura Sukhawati Skill Centre, Debashish Nandi, said similar initiatives will soon begin in southern and northern districts to expand training opportunities for rural women.
A press release from the Skill Development Department confirmed that the new centre will significantly enhance capacity building and livelihood opportunities for women in remote border belts.
