Agartala, Dec 02: The state government has moved a step forward in its plan to set up two AYUSH medical colleges in Tripura. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat to review the proposal for establishing a Homeopathic Medical College in Agartala and an Ayurvedic Medical College in Gomati district.
According to officials, the Union Ministry of AYUSH has sanctioned Rs 140 crore for the project. The meeting discussed the proposed locations, seat capacity, departments, and academic structure of the two colleges, each of which is planned to offer 60 seats.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to examine the functioning of Homeopathic and Ayurvedic colleges in other states so that the experience gained there can be used while setting up the new institutions. He also called for fixing a clear timeframe for the establishment of both colleges.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, reviewed the placement options for students from Tripura who are currently studying AYUSH courses outside the state. He noted that public confidence in Homeopathy and Ayurveda had declined over the years and said that efforts should be made to restore faith in traditional systems of treatment.
A detailed slideshow on infrastructure planning, academic components, and administrative requirements was presented at the meeting.
Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, National AYUSH Mission Member Secretary Saju Wahid A., PWD Chief Engineer Sanjay Kumar Das, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Director Dr. Anjan Kumar Das, Joint Director Dr. Ashok Dewan, and other departmental officials attended the review meeting.
