Agartala, Dec 02: A large python was rescued from Charilam’s Puranbari area on Monday night, after residents spotted the reptile near the pond of local resident Binoy Karmakar, close to the Charilam Forest Range Office.
Villagers noticed the snake lying beside the road and immediately informed the Charilam Forest Range. Beat Officer Sukanta Das, along with forest staff, reached the location and captured the python using rescue equipment. The snake was then secured in a sack for safe relocation.
Beat Officer Das stated that Puranbari is located next to a wildlife sanctuary, and sightings of pythons and other protected species are common in such fringe zones.
Forest officials confirmed that the rescued python will be released in the forest area of Sepahijala Zoo. Villagers estimated the reptile’s weight to be over 100 kilograms.
The situation remained under control following the prompt action of the forest team.
