Agartala: Nov 11. A two-day District Level Skill Development Training Programme on Modern Practices in Agriculture & Allied Sector under the National Rurban Mission (NRuM) began on Tuesday at the PRTI Conference Hall in Ambassa, organized by the Department of Agriculture.
The training, scheduled for November 11 and 12, aims to enhance farmers’ technical knowledge and practical skills in mushroom cultivation one of the fastest-growing agri-based income sectors.
A total of 75 farmers from different blocks of Dhalai district are participating in the programme. The event was inaugurated by Ambassa Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Hemali Debbarma through ceremonial lamp lighting. Dhalai Zilla Parishad member and Agriculture Standing Committee Chairperson Dipti Rakhit, Deputy Director of Agriculture (DDA) Dhalai Bidya Mohan Chakma, and other officials were also present.
Speaking at the event, DDA B.M. Chakma said the objective of the training is to empower farmers with the know-how of scientific mushroom cultivation. “There is a strong and consistent market demand for mushrooms. With the right training, farmers can earn a steady income and achieve economic self-reliance,” he said.
Experts from the Agriculture Department conducted hands-on demonstrations, teaching farmers the step-by-step process of mushroom cultivation. Each participant will be provided with a mushroom spawn at the end of the training to encourage them to start production at home.
Officials expressed confidence that the initiative will promote modern agricultural practices and help boost rural livelihoods across Dhalai district.
