Tripura, 29 Sep 2025: To ensure law and order during the Durga Puja festivities, Kalyanpur Police launched a special anti-liquor drive on Maha Saptami, acting on a tip-off. The operation was conducted in Ratia Colony, where police recovered 114 bottles of foreign liquor and detained the owner on the spot.
Sub-Inspector Anjan Debbarma of Kalyanpur Police Station said such drives are being carried out to maintain peace during the festive season and will continue in the coming days. The arrested individual has been identified as Bidhan Choudhury of Ratia Colony, Kalyanpur, who is currently being interrogated. Police confirmed that the seized liquor had no valid documents and was being treated as part of illegal trade.
Locals expressed concern that illegal liquor trade and excessive drinking could disrupt peace during the festival. They welcomed the police action, saying such drives should not remain limited to festivals but be conducted year-round to reduce substance abuse in society.
Authorities assured that all areas will remain under strict watch throughout Durga Puja, with continuous action against drugs and liquor-related offenses.
